Police have today confirmed that a death threat was made against the Australia High Commissioner to Fiji James Batley last night.

Media liaison officer Atunaisa Sokomuri has confirmed that the threat was contained in a letter delivered by a taxi driver at around 8.10pm.

Officers from the Police Special Branch were at the High Commission last night providing security to the High Commissioner and the Commission staff.

Police are also doing constant patrolling around the High Commission today. Australian High Commission James Batley said he is aware of the threat that was received at the Commission yesterday evening.

However, he said he will not comment on the matter as they are currently assessing the letter received and are expected to issue a statement later this afternoon on the matter.
