Australian parliamentary secretary for pacific island affairs Duncan Kerr said the Australian government has offered $A150,000 towards the emergency flood relief efforts underway in Fiji.

Kerr told Australian Network that Canberra will provide more help if needed and ready to respond to any requests.

Yesterday the NZ government provided $100,000 for relief assistance to the country but the money will go through Red Cross and not through the government.

Meanwhile, this morning the Chinese government handed over $50,000 for relief assistance to the ministry of foreign affairs to help the interim government's efforts in this disaster period.
