The Australian government will continue to top up the salary of the Supervisor of Elections Felecity Heffernan despite the interim government announcing that elections will not be held in March next year.
Australian High Commissioner to Fiji James Bately told Fijivillage News that while Australia maintains the need for elections to be held by March 2009, they also recognize the need to have an effective Elections Office.
The Australian High Commission and the Public Service Commission entered into an agreement that Ausaid would top up Heffernan's salary to match that to Australian standards, which was incorporated in the contract offered to attract highly qualified people to apply for the post.
