An urgent call is being made by the Police for people facing problems to speak to counselors to try and overcome any challenges.

The call comes after the case of an attempted suicide in Nadi.

The 23-year-old woman is currently admitted in hospital.

Police spokesperson Josaia Weicavu is appealing to members of the public to seek help from counselors, religious leaders, community leaders, NGOs, the Social Welfare Ministry and other organizations to solve their problems if they are going through serious family issues.

According to the 2015 Police Crime Statistics Report, there were 123 suicide cases and 108 attempted suicide cases last year.

There were 118 cases of suicide and 112 cases of attempted suicide in 2014.

More than 100 cases of suicide continue to be recorded in Fiji on an annual basis since 2013.
