The United Nations has stressed that the needs Assessment Mission team being sent to Fiji ahead of the planned Parliamentary elections will be politically neutral and unbiased.
This is according to Fiji’s ambassador to the United Nations in New York Peter Thompson who said the team will provide an objective technical need assessment for Fiji to conduct free and fair elections.
The Needs Assessment Mission is slated to take place early next month.
It will provide technical assessment of Fiji’s needs, such as ballot boxes, staffing and logistical preparation, among other considerations.
Meanwhile, consultations on Fiji’s next constitution will commence this month.
That’s the statement from Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama as he opened the 2012 Heads of Missions conference in Suva yesterday.
Commodore Bainimarama said this is going according to the plan set out in the government’s roadmap to democracy.
Commodore Bainimarama said relevant stakeholders will take part during the constitution consultations.
