Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has called on lawyers to clearly analyze the legal developments that are occurring in the country and decide on whether the new laws coming into force are good for the people of the country and are non-discriminatory.

While delivering the opening address at the AG’s Conference at Sofitel Fiji Resort, Sayed-Khaiyum told about 300 lawyers in attendance that they have a much greater responsibility to contribute as lawyers in the country.

He also highlighted that for many lawyers, once they have a degree and a job, they think that is all for them.

However, he stressed that this kind of ideology must not be entertained and lawyers should value and respect their duties, and contribute to the country.

Sayed-Khaiyum also said on the legal side, 70 different changes have occurred in Fiji since April 2009.
