The wait is finally over and after a lapse of 5 years the Sukuna Bowl returned to the Queen Elizabeth Barracks yesterday after Army defeated Police 14-0.
The boys in red and green scored all of their points in the first half with tries to halfback Nikola Matawalu and fullback Sakaraia Tui.
Matawalu try resulted from a mistake by Police captain Mosese Volavola when he lost the ball from a scrum just a meter from his try line.
Again the second try from Tui also came after Police winger Epeli Vuicuvu knocked the ball back to his try line into the hands of the Army fullback who crossed over for the second try.
In the second half, Police tried to come back with impact players like Jonetani Ralulu, Iliesa Ratuva, Samu Bola and Jo Nasilisili coming in, but the Army defence led by captain Dale Tonawai held their own to deny them any scoring opportunities.
Manager, Major Penioni Naliva said that they came with a mission to return with the Sukuna Bowl and his boys played to the game plan laid down by Coach Reverend Joji Rinakama.
Naliva added the message to his brigade not to allow Police to dominate the game and to score first to force them into mistakes.
Army number 8 Ilitomasi Nawalu was named man of the match after the final whistle.
