Defending Champions Army Green is on track to retain their Marist 7s title second year in a row after hammering last year’s finalist Ratu Filise 29-12 in the quarterfinal.

Captain Dale Tonawai said they still have some areas to improve on.

Meanwhile, the Digicel Fiji Babarians side was given a hard time by Wardens Green.

The second string Wardens side nearly caused the upset of the tournament after they broke through Fiji's defence a couple of times in a close encounter where they narrowly lost 24-19.

Both teams were locked 19-all with 30 seconds left before Nikola Matawalu ran in 50 meters to score the winning try underneath the post.

Matawalu was the star in the quarterfinals after he ran in two 50 meter tries.

The Naval officer was a thorn in the Wardens defence as he danced his way through the opposition defence to help a much fitter aggressive and experienced Babaas side into the semifinals.

Former National rep Leone Nakarawa was in brilliant form for the champions as he broke tackles and made some brilliant breaks in their quarterfinal match.

Army is now the first team to book their place in the semi finals.

Red Rock one is currently leading Police in the second quarterfinal by 5-0.

Meanwhile, Skipper Setefano Cakau led from the front for the Digicel Fiji 7s, after he scored two tries for his team against Hydro in the second elimination round in the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s.

The inspirational skipper made some bone crunching tackles to rattle the Naitasiri based Hydro side.

Joji Ragamate, Ilai Tinai, Sikeli Vuruna, Jimilai Naikadawa and Nikola Matawalu were very aggressive in the defence as well.

Coach Alifereti Dere said they still have to do a lot of work on their defence.
