The Prime Minister's Office will soon decide on whether former Prime Ministers who were earlier receiving the government pension will be entitled to other benefits.

Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Colonel Pio Tikoduadua has already confirmed to Fijivillage News that former Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase will not be receiving the pension as he has not been receiving it since December 2006.

Tikoduadua said the decision is based on the issue that Qarase was not entitled to the pension in the first place.

Former Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is back on the pension after the decree to stop the pensions was revoked by the Prime Minister last week.

However it is not known whether other benefits as part of the Prime Minister's pension will also resume for Rabuka.

Other benefits included the provision for the installation, connection, maintenance and rental of a telephone in any private residence of his, and to meet the cost of all charges in respect of local calls originating from such telephone, the provision for a Ministerial type vehicle and a driver, including free travel on scheduled trips of Government ships, medical treatment, hospitalization, drugs and all other hospital services locally.

It also included the provision of an annual budgetary allocation of an amount of $30,000 per annum and subject to periodic adjustments, to enable the person in receipt of a pension, to hire personal staff as required.

Colonel Tikoduadua said the decision on other benefits will be made soon.
