The Interim Prime Minister said it is quite clear that the people who went to visit the head of the Catholic Church of Fiji Archbishop Petero Mataca last week had a political agenda.
Commodore Frank Bainimarama questions what good it would do to ask the Archbishop to withdraw from the National Council for Building a Better Fiji if it is aimed at moving the nation forward.
Meanwhile, Burebasaga chief Ro Teimumu Kepa who is a member of the Naililili Parish in Rewa and accompanied the group of people to see the Archbishop, said they had gone to him to raise their concerns as catholics, not as politicians.
In a statement, Archbishop Mataca has said that he joined the national council to contribute in building Fiji, Rotuma, Rabi and Kioa to be a secure, just and truthful place.
Archbishop Mataca has defended his acceptance of the post in the council saying that victims and wrongdoers have not freed themselves from the hurtful events and as a result have been moving the nation backwards. He reiterates that he has dedicated his life to serving the people and God, and his position as Co-Chair should not be taken as him not being neutral.
