Newly ordained and installed Metropolitan Archbishop of Suva Peter Loy Chong believes the church needs to come up with new ideas to meet the challenges and especially the problems that the world faces.

Archbishop Chong said one of his main objective is to educate the Church about the current situation we are in and find ways to counter it.

Archbishop Chong also said he is overwhelmed by the presence of thousands of people yesterday and today which shows that he has the support of the church.

In his sermon today Archbishop Chong said they are currently going through tough times and he needs the support of the priest, other religious organisations and the Church.

Fijivillage asked the new Archbishop what he went through when Archbishop Emeritus Petero Mataca led him to the stone seat.

Many wiped the tears off their faces when Archbishop Emeritus Petero Mataca took Archbishop Chong's hand and led him to the stone sit.

When Archbishop Chong sat on the seat it signifies he is now the official shepherd of the Archdiocese of Suva and it also brings an end to Archbishop Emeritus Mataca's 39 years of leadership.

More than 5,000 people packed the Sacred Heart Cathedral to witness the Episcopal installation of the new Archbishop today.

Archbishop Chong will also look after the Archdiocese of Rarotonga and Kiribati.
