Another group has applied for party registration at the Elections Office in the last hour.

The proposed Fiji United Freedom Party handed in more than 6,000 member signatures to Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem and paid the $5,005 registration fees.

The proposed party officials are President, Jagath Karunaratne, Vice Presidents Viliame Tamanivalu and Ratu Emosi Verebasaga, the General Secretary is Pranita Krishnan while the treasurer is Peni Waqavonovono.

The proposed President of the proposed Fiji United Freedom Party, Jagath Karunaratne said their main focus is to create a platform for the younger generation.

Karunarate is currently facing charges in court for allegedly writing seditious comments in public places.

When asked on his charges, Karunaratne said the charge will not stop him from holding a party post as the case is still before the courts and he is not convicted.

Saneem told then that they will now go through the verification process and decide in 28 days on whether the proposed party can be registered.

Meanwhile the proposed FijiFirst party is currently going through the verification process.

The registered parties in the country are the Fiji Labour Party, the National Federation Party, the People’s Democratic Party and the Social Democratic and Liberal Party.
