Just within a few days, another report has emerged that a child was allegedly raped by a relative earlier this week.

A 47-year-old man has been charged with two counts of rape after he allegedly raped a 10-year-old girl in Suva.

The offence is alleged to have occurred on two separate occasions on Monday and Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Inspector Josaia Weicavu says the 47-year-old man is the girl’s grandmother’s cousin.

They were staying together at the same house.

The man is expected to appear in the Suva Magistrates Court later today.

Meanwhile a 29-year-old man appeared in the Nadi Magistrates Court earlier this week for allegedly raping his 7-month-old daughter.

Serious concerns have been raised on the number of reported rape cases in the country.

Last month, there were seven people charged with a total of 12 rape offences.

Of the 12, one victim was between the age of three and ten years.

The Director of Public Prosecutions had confirmed that there was one serious sexual offence that involved a couple in a domestic relationship.

An 11-year-old boy is also charged with raping a 13-year-old girl.

Another serious sexual offence involved a 72-year-old accused and an eight-year-old girl.
