The annual Methodist Church of Fiji Conference scheduled to be held in August this year in Rewa has been stopped by the Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) and the Fiji Police Force.

A joint statement issued by the RFMF and the Fiji Police said that they have decided to take this action not to allow the annual meet of the Methodist Church after submissions were made to the Methodist Church standing committee on the political situation in the country.

The RFMF stated that in the past few months certain figure head members of the Methodist Church have tried to bring instability to the country by using the Church.

It said that the Methodist Church cannot hide its involvement in politics as a lot of agenda items have been circulated to members by the standing committee highlighting that the current political situation will be discussed at the annual conference.

The RFMF maintained that they have made the decision not to allow the Annual Methodist Church Conference to go ahead to protect the rule of law and maintain stability for every race in the country.

The Methodist Church conference was to be held in Lomanikoro, Rewa.
