Despite the heavy rain, hundreds of school children, government officials and diplomats gathered at the Albert Park in Suva for the Fiji day 40th Anniversary Celebrations that was officially opened by Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama this morning.

Commodore Bainimarama said it is not a day for condemnation but celebration as the country has overcome many challenges over the years.

He said with all the current reforms being undertaken by the government the people of Fiji have been remarkable by showing open mindedness to the changes.

Commodore Bainimarama has urged all Fijians to embrace the changes and be part of the countrys new vision.

Entertainment from various schools is currently underway at Albert Park.

Tomorrow is the Fiji Day Parade by the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces.
