Commodore Viliame Naupoto’s three month acting term comes to an end this Sunday.
Commodore Naupoto took up the acting appointment after Mosese Tikoitoga’s resignation.
Fijivillage had received confirmation at the time that the Constitutional Offices Commission had decided to delegate the Chairman of the Commission, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama to make acting appointments for upto three months.
The Commission is responsible for providing advice to the President for the appointment of the Commander of the RFMF.
According to the constitution, the Commander is appointed by the President on the advice of the Commission, following consultation with the Minister responsible for the RFMF.
Commodore Viliame Naupoto had earlier said that he is not ruling out the possibility of applying for the substantive post.
He also decided to stay with the RFMF when Jioji Konrote resigned from parliament to take up the President’s post.
Naupoto was next in line in the FijiFirst list to take up the parliamentary seat.
He had confirmed that after discussions with the Prime Minister, he has decided to stay with the army.
