The Amnesty International Australia has welcomed the news that Fiji Police are moving forward with their investigation of a video showing two recaptured prisoners beaten up earlier this year.
Crisis Campaigner for Amnesty International Australia Michael Hayward said the next step now is for charges to be laid.
Speaking to Radio Australia Hayward said it is a good sign that the Fiji Police are still conducting their investigation.
Meanwhile, Police have completed taking statements of the members of the disciplined forces who were allegedly caught on camera beating up two recaptured prisoners earlier this year.
Chief of Operations ACP Rusiate Tudravu confirmed that the Criminal Investigation Department is now looking at further steps to be taken in relation to the brutality video that went viral on the internet from March this year.
ACP Tudravu said some of their officers were allegedly involved in the case.
The CID is now looking at witnesses and evidence.
ACP Tudravu is now awaiting feedback from the Director CID before deciding on charges.
