An American cruise liner, the Regal Princess leaves the Suva Harbour this hour after more then 1900 passengers and crew spent the day shopping in the capital.

The vessel pulled into port at 8 this morning and had passengers from Canada, the US, England, the Caribbean and Australia as part of a cruise which started in Canada.

The Tourism Ministry also confirms that it is estimated that each passenger would have spent around $50 to $100 during their stay.

The Ministry said this may be below the usual spending by these passengers as many items, particularly handicraft, are not permitted by Australian and New Zealand customs where the vessel is now headed.
