The Chairman for the Electoral Commission has refused to make any comments on the EU Troika Mission report that was made public on Saturday.

M.K.Sahu Khan told Fijivillage this morning that he had read the report in the dailies yesterday, however he could not make any comments before meeting the Election Commissioners.

According to Khan, a lot of work needs to be done in preparation for the coming up general elections. Khan had said earlier that it’s not possible to hold the general elections in March next year.

Khan confirmed that a special workshop is expected to be held next Wednesday and Thursday in Labasa for the election officials.

Meanwhile, EU Troika Mission expects the interim government to meet commitments it had taken, in the areas of rule of law and respect for one's human rights, and to ensure elections happen not later than the end of February 2009.

The mission also confirmed that the release of aid for 2008 depends on the interim regime's desire to genuinely fulfill its commitments to the EU.
