The lawyer for alleged rapist, Ilaitia Nalawa will file an official complaint of an alleged assault by some Fiji Corrections Service officers.
Panapasa Tawake says his client has informed him that he was allegedly assaulted at the Suva Remand Centre on Sunday afternoon.
The Fiji Corrections Service says no prisoners were assaulted or injured at the remand centre on Sunday.
It says the inmates were released from their cells for lunch and when the officers asked them to return to their cells they refused the orders and swore at them.
They confirm that Ilaitia Nalawa was one of these inmates.
The Fiji Corrections Service says an alarm was raised by officers on duty to avoid the situation from getting out of hand and reinforcements stepped in to diffuse the situation.
