A 30-year-old man who allegedly raped a 19-year-old woman in Toorak in November last year appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court this afternoon and refused to respond to the questions of the court for more than half an hour.

The court was also forced to take a short adjournment.

Josefa Roligadra is charged with one count of rape and one count of assault with intent to rape.

The alleged incident took place on 20th November last year.

Magistrate, Waleen George said that in her six years of being a Magistrate, Roligadra has been the most difficult accused.

Roligadra was later asked if he had an alibi. He refused to say anything regarding this and only said he was sleeping during the time of the alleged incident.

The case has been transferred to the Suva High Court which will be called on the 19th of this month.

Meanwhile, Police have confirmed that they have not established any link so far between the alleged rape cases from Toorak and Holland Street in Suva.

Chief of Intelligence and Investigations, ACP Biu Matavou says the investigators are continuing to explore leads in relation to the alleged rape case in Holland Street.

A tertiary student was allegedly raped near Holland Street in Suva last Friday morning.

According to the Police, the woman had taken a shortcut route near Holland Street when the incident took place.
