Alleged rapist Petero Bai was today further remanded in custody after the DPP's office managed to obtain a statement from the victim who is a class three student.

High Court Judge Justice Daniel Gounder had last week given State lawyer Paulini Madanavosa till today to produce the victim's statement in relation to the case of attempted murder and alleged rape of a class three student, otherwise the accused would be released on bail.

However this morning Madanavosa informed the court that she managed to obtain the interview from the class three student.

Judge Gounder asked Madanavosa if there were other pending disclosures, and if there would be a need for an identification line up to identify the accused, to which Madanavosa stated that there was no need for one.

Meanwhile Defense Counsel Barbara Malimali was not present in court, and Justice Gounder confirmed that his staff had called her office and was told that she was not present in her office.

Bai has been further remanded in custody.

The pre-trial conference has been set for the 6th of August.

Twenty one year old Petero Bai is alleged to have assaulted the student before allegedly raping her about three months ago in the school toilet.
