31-year-old Ilaitia Nalawa, who is charged with raping a 9-year-girl in Nakasi, has been further remanded in custody by the Suva High Court.
Nalawa is charged with rape, assault with intent to rape, theft and burglary.
Nalawa today alleged in court that he was assaulted by Police officers during his caution interview.
The state informed the court that Nalawa did not raise any such allegations when he first appeared in the Nasinu Magistrates Court despite been granted an opportunity to do so.
The state also told the court that the accused waived his right to counsel when it was put to him in the Magistrates Court.
The case has been adjourned to next Monday for the state to produce Nalawa’s medical report before and after he was interviewed under caution.
An application for a permanent suppression order for the complainant’s name has been granted.
