Alleged murder victim suffered fatal health conditions-Pathologist
Forensic Pathologist Dr. Prashant today revealed that Josevata Saubulinayau, who died after a brawl outside a Suva nightclub earlier this year, died due to " berry's aneurysm", a rupture of a blood vessel in his brain.
Dr. Prashant also confirmed upon cross examination by defense counsel Gavin O'Driscoll that the condition takes between a month to six months to develop and can rupture due to a number of reasons.
He said the vessel was at a stage that it could have ruptured itself, caused by a blunt force trauma and there is also a possibility that it could have been triggered by excessive alcohol. The Pathologist also revealed that the victim had water in his lungs and a chronic heart condition which would have also caused the vessel to burst.
Dr. Prashant also revealed that there were no visible signs of external injuries on the victim’s body despite claims by witnesses that he was punched and kicked several times. He concluded that the victim could have died by simply falling over as he was drunk at the time.
However, DPP Lawyer Aman Singh highlighted that the victim, who was lying on the ground, was kicked in the head by the accused which caused his death. The trial continues this afternoon.
The Census Director has confirmed that more than 90 percent of households around the country have been visited by enumerators, as of yesterday.
