Alleged accused warned
Jameel Mohammed is alleged to have defiled the victim on the 16th of June in 2009 in Jittu Estate where he met the student and told her to hang out in town.
It is then alleged that they were hanging around town when he took the victim to his home in Jittu Estate and allegedly defiled her.
The Magistrates Court was informed by State prosecutor Kitione Waqavonovono that the accused is intimidating the witnesses by verbally abusing the victim.
Magistrate Archchi then told Mohammed that if he was not to interfere with the witnesses or else he would be remanded in custody until the hearing date.
Meanwhile, defence council Kini Maraiwai asked Magistrate Arachchi to adjourn the hearing to a later date as he was just instructed yesterday by the accused about the case.
Maraiwai was previously representing Mohammad but had withdrawn.
Waqavonovono then asked the Court that the case not be dragged on as it is affecting the victim's school attendance as she has to be excused from class to attend the court case.
The hearing has been adjourned to the 31st of July.
