A 49-year-old cane cutter of Labasa who allegedly raped his 70 year old mother has been remanded in custody by the Labasa magistrate’s court this morning.
Police prosecutor Dharmendra Kumar told magistrate Anare Tuilevuka, that the accused allegedly assaulted his elderly mother on Monday before raping her. The victim was admitted at Labasa hospital and was released yesterday.
Magistrate Tuilevuka ordered the accused to be remanded in custody due to the seriousness of the charges and for his own safety.
No plea was taken today and the accused has applied for assistance from Legal Aid. He will reappear in Labasa magistrate court on 11th September.
