One of the accused Anil Singh charged in relation to the alleged murder of 16 year old Zoya Bibi has been granted bail by High Court Judge Justice Nazhat Shameem this morning.

Judge Shameem highlights that three factors differentiate Singh's case from the other two accused whose bail was denied which are that he is only 19 years old, in regular paid employment at Flour Mills of Fiji and he offers an acceptable assurity.

She also notes that Singh was assaulted in prison custody and any measures to isolate the perpetrator are obviously temporary.

Judge Shameem said all these factors persuade her that although the applicant is charged with a most serious offence, he is not a flight risk. Singh has been told to report at the CPS three times a week, remain under a nightly curfew from 7pm to 6am and not to interfere with witnesses.

Meanwhile, four others charged in relation to the same offence remain in police custody awaiting trial.
