A 32-year-old man of Colo-I-Suva, charged with the alleged murder of a 38-year-old woman of Kinoya appeared in the Nasinu Magistrates Court this morning.

No plea was taken as Setefano Naususu appeared before Magistrate Salesi Temo charged with one count of murder, robbery with violence and robbery.

Naususu told Magistrate Temo that he wanted to seek the assistance of Legal Aid before entering a plea.

State Prosecutors then made an application to transfer the matter to the High Court as charges laid against Naususu are very serious.

The matter was transferred to the High Court, where his bail condition will be decided.

He has been remanded until May 9th, when the matter will be called in the High Court.

Police arrested and charged Naususu for allegedly killing 38-year-old Sarojni Lata of Nakasi on Sunday morning.

The suspect, who is from a settlement in Colo-I-Suva, was charged with murder and two counts of robbery with violence last night.

He is also alleged to have robbed a taxi driver soon after robbing Sarojni Lata and her husband and throwing a stone at their delivery vehicle.

The deceased and her husband, who own a bakery in Nakasi, were delivering bread to villagers in Colo-I-Suva when the suspect appeared from nearby bush and grabbed the bag containing money.

Lata's husband gave chase and the robber fled into the bush. He,  however, returned with a big stone and threw it at the delivery van. The stone hit Lata, who was sitting inside.

She sustained serious head injuries and later passed away at the CWM hospital. A post mortem report reveals that she died of serious head injuries.
