Alleged Conmen appear in Court
26 year old Avinesh Reddy has been charged with 8 counts of obtaining money by false pretense while another accused 36 year old Rohan Singh has been charged with 1 count of obtaining money by false pretense.
No plea was taken today and both the accused have asked for representation.
Magistrate Rokomokoti ordered for the two to be remanded in custody and adjourned the case till 11th July.
It is alledged that the two conned a farmer and obtained thousands of dollars from him under the pretext of arranging a girl for marriage. The two men allegedly asked for a rental car, ducks, chickens, beer and cash to arrange his marriage in Nadi.
It is further alleged that when the complainant asked the two to talk to his wife to be, the two would call their wives and their wives would speak to the farmer.
It is alleged that the wives would tell him that they love him and would marry him. Then at the end of the conversation, they would allegedly tell the farmer to send $300 or $500 to them through the two men who are their husbands. The poor farmer lost all his savings before he uncovered the scam.
