The military said the political parties should not just agree to change the electoral system as discussions are held on the new constitution.

RFMF’s Land Force Commander and spokesperson, Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga said as part of the cleanup campaign they want to remove all the policies that favor a particular ethnic group.

He said the new constitution should be fair to all and not bring back things from the 1997 constitution.

Despite comments by the SDL, the Fiji Labour Party, the National Federation Party and the United People’s Party that the last elected parliament should be reconvened, electoral changes to be made and elections to be held under the revised 1997 constitution, Colonel Tikoitoga said this idea is unacceptable.

SDL Leader, Laisenia Qarase said Colonel Tikoitoga should not tell the parties what to think when they make their submission to the Constitutional Commission.

Qarase also rejects suggestions that the SDL is a racist party.

Qarase maintains that policies like the proposed Qoliqoli Bill were necessary.
