The University of the South Pacific has today clarified that they followed all procedures as to outsourcing the Dining Hall services.

This follows claims by the USP permanent hourly paid and intermediate and junior staff Union that they were caught off guard following a public announcement by USP that the Dining Hall services would be outsourced in the next two weeks.

However, Human Resources Manager, Agnes Kotoisuva said the  University followed the Employment Promulgation and officially informed the close to 20 workers that they would be made redundant as a result of the outsourcing.

Union General Secretary, Anasa Tuviniwai said it was a real shock for the workers and they will be holding a meeting to discuss their next course of action as 18 of their members will become unemployed.

He said they are contemplating strike action.
