All Government quarters will soon be rented out for rates currently charged on the market which is expected to rake in over $10 million annually for the government.

Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairman Josefa Serulagilagi said the government quarters, which are worth millions of dollars, are currently being managed under an outdated system and needs a major overhaul.

Serulagilagi said the KPMG report noted that the state does not reap the benefits of renting the quarters at below market value and the current system where different ministries are in charge of different processes is not producing the desired results as the quarters have become dilapidated and they are costing the government a substantial amount of money to maintain.

He said they have forwarded their proposal to the Prime Minister’s office that all government quarters at market rates to anyone wishing to rent such accommodation.
