A headed goal from Rory Fallon and a penalty save from Mark Paston in Wellington last night carried the All Whites to the World Cup in South Africa next year.

New Zealand's 1-0 win over Bahrain in the second leg of their qualifier gave them 1-0 aggregate results, sparking scenes of jubilation among the home players and most of the capacity 35,000 crowd.

It will be just the second time the All Whites will appear at a final tournament, the first since Spain in 1982, when present coach Ricki Herbert was in the squad.

Meanwhile, England midfielder David Beckham helped his Los Angeles Galaxy side move a step closer to the Major League Soccer title in the United States with a 2-0 victory over Houston Dynamo.

Beckham's extra time free kick was poked home by Greg Berhalter before Landon Donovan sealed the win from the penalty spot.

They will face either Chicago Fire or Real Salt Lake in the final.

It will be Beckham's last game before rejoining AC Milan on loan.
