The Fiji Teachers Union believes that before talking about reducing operational costs by 10%, the Interim Prime Minister should first think how did the civil service become large and who recruited the civil servants.
General Secretary Agni Deo Singh said there is no civil servant who comes to work daily and does nothing and Commodore Frank Bainimarama should explain how he is planning to reduce costs in the education sector.
Singh's comment comes after the Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama said at a workshop at Nasova yesterday that the overall size of the public service is rather large for a country of our size.
Bainimarama stressed that he isn't seeing the level of commitment required to achieve the targeted reform and right sizing programme of the current 10% reduction in operational costs. He revealed that all exemptions already granted for the 10% reduction will be reviewed and urged all civil servants to contribute towards this.
