The All Blacks have kicked off their Rugby World Cup campaign with a 41-10 win against Tonga last night in the opening game at Eden Park.

Although it was unconvincing they saw some magical moments in the first half as they scooted 27-0 clear after 31 minutes.

It was downhill from there as the Tongans refused to budge and improved their error rate.

The All Blacks fell on the wrong side of referee George Clancy and because they struggled for physical control up front, they were left relying on back line brilliance for their points.

This came often enough to establish a sizeable win but the lack of coherency will concern All Blacks coach Graham Henry ahead of their next match in a week's time against Japan in Hamilton.

Captain Richie McCaw, who was far from the influential figure All Blacks supporters have come to expect, seems relaxed enough and believes his side has done enough to win the game.

The All Blacks would have wanted to start the rugby World Cup with an emphatic statement but a question mark was the best they could manage in a 41 10 win over Tonga last night.

However, Former Wallaby and 2007 Flying Fijians coach, Ilivasi Tabua said this is what the All Blacks would have wanted from Tonga.

Tabua added that All Blacks will improve from here.

Meanwhile, All Blacks head coach Graham Henry gave his players a pass mark, but by only six or so, saying while they scored some good tries and defended well they made too many mistakes and gave away too many penalties,

Right wing Richard Kahui and fullback Israel Dagg scored two tries each and the others went to second five Ma'a Nonu and flanker Jerome Kaino.
