All Blacks greats Buck Shelford, Michael Jones and Joe Stanley have been helping boost the Blues in the build-up to their first Super Rugby game of the season this Saturday against the Hurricanes.
Blues coach Sir John Kirwan has called in some former players from within the Blues franchisen which also includes Craig Innes, Eric Rush and Justin Collins.
Kirwan wanted their philosophies and winning attitude to rub off on his new look squad and believes that has been happening.
The Blues will meet the Hurricanes at 6:35pm Saturday.
Meanwhile, on Friday the Highlanders will take on the defending champions Chiefs at 6.35pm and at 8.40 the Rebels meet the Brumbies.
Stormers will meet the Bulls at 5:10am on Saturday while at 8.40pm the Reds play the Waratahs.
