The All Blacks have kicked off their 2009 Tri-Nation and Bledisloe Cup defense on a winning note beating the Wallabies 22-16 at Eden Park last night.

The Richie McCaw led side also extended their undefeated record into the 24th year in Auckland with a strong second half performance which saw the visitors back paddling in most parts of the game.

Australia started well with a try to inside centre Berrick Barnes but New Zealand captain Richie McCaw led by example as he replied for the hosts.

The Wallabies led 13-10 at half-time but Stephan Donald was the difference as he kicked 4 penalties to win the game for the All Blacks.

New Zealand will now fly-out to South Africa in their next Tri-Nation outing.
