Alarm bells started to ring in the Chiefs camp on Saturday night after watching the Crusaders impressive win against the Reds in the Super rugby playoff.

Chiefs assistant coach Wayne Smith said it is too early to say whether they will prefer the Brumbies or Bulls to advance from the other semi, should they make the final.

New Zealand's Radio Sport asked Smith which team he would prefer to play against the Chiefs in the semis.

He said the Crusaders are hitting their straps and playing a great all round game.

Meanwhile, there is confirmation that Richie McCaw will not be in the starting side for the Crusaders this Saturday.

Despite the magnitude of this Saturday night's semi, the Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder has no regrets about his decision to keep McCaw on the bench, stating he will not be swayed in rushing him back prematurely.

The Chiefs will play the Crusaders at 7.35pm  Saturday while the Bulls will take on the Brumbies at 3am this Sunday in the semis.
