Akesa Drotini youngest athlete to ever win gold
15-year-old Drotini has been hitting the headlines after her marvellous performance in the women's 5000 meters final where she won gold for Team Fiji.
After conducting the checks this afternoon, Athletics Fiji coach Albert Miller said there were other athletes at the age of 15 to compete in top level competitions but no one was able to win gold.
Miller said Drotini who also travelled to Japan for the World Championship with Makelesi Bulikiobo and Iowane Dovumatua only as an observe has a bright future in athletics but she will not be rushed into too many things at the moment.
Speaking to Village sports, Akesa who ran barefoot said it was her will-power at the beginning of the race, and divine intervention that inspired her to win the gold medal.
Drotini will be going for her second gold in the women’s 1500 meters finals on Friday.
