Negotiations are now underway between the Transport Workers Union and the national carrier on Air Pacific's retirement age policy for the cabin crew staff, which is 45 years.

Transport Workers Union General Secretary Kamlesh Kumar said their case currently in the Fiji Court of Appeal challenging to increase the retirement age was strengthened through the Employment Relations Promulgation which does not allow forced retirement of workers at a certain age.

Kumar said they are trying to find ways to come to an amicable solution as Air Pacific has to abide by the ER promulgation.

However, he confirmed that Air Pacific has allowed some cabin crew staff to continue to work despite being over 45.
