Air Pacific was forced to cancel its flights to and from Melbourne yesterday due to a mechanical issue on its Boeing 767ER aircraft.

In a statement, Air Pacific said as a result, the airline is re routing passengers on Air Pacific flights through Sydney and Brisbane as well as on other airlines in an effort to minimise the inconvenience.

The B767ER aircraft was scheduled to fly to Hong Kong today with a return flight tomorrow, therefore those flights will be similarly affected while the aircraft is being worked on and returned to service.

Managing Director and CEO Air Pacific, Dave Pflieger said the company wants to apologise for the inconvenience and disruption that this problem has caused.

He added that their team has been working around the clock since their engineers discovered the problem to find ways to take care of their passengers and minimise the effects of the disruption.

Meanwhile, Pacific Sun confirmed that one of it's Twin Otter aircraft has been delayed in Taveuni.

General Manager, Jim Samson said engineers are currently working on the fault and are hopeful that the aircraft would be in operation by today.

Samson said the islander aircraft that carried engineers to Matei airport is now shuttling the delayed passengers to Nausori and Taveuni.
