Air Pacific Forced To Defer Flight Commencement
Air Pacific CEO John Campbell said the deep recession which has impacted travel in Asia will require extensive lead selling time to ensure success of the Hong Kong flights and by deferring the startup they will be able to conclude special fare arrangements with Chinese, Asian and European Airlines for connecting flights and fares via Hong Kong.
Campbell said in the absence of a full portfolio of fares and distribution commencement of flights would lose millions of dollars and place the success of the new services in jeopardy.
He said they regret the delay in commencing the service as they are very keen to see the passenger flows from Asia, India, China, UK and Europe that will be generated by this flight.
The CEO said unfortunately, the economic difficulties the world and Air Pacific faces left them with no option then to commence flights when they have the greatest opportunity of success and the deferment would ensure the long term viability of the route.
The flights to Hong Kong which were to commence on June 18th will now start on December 3rd.
