Despite the trading difficulties Fiji's international airline is currently facing, they are confident that freight opportunities can be generated via the new Hong Kong route for export cargoes from Fiji and import goods to Fiji in addition to strong passenger flows.

However, Air Pacific Chief Executive John Campbell said that the economic difficulties in the world has forced the airline to start their air services to Hong Kong at a time when there is the greatest opportunity for success which is in December and not June.

He said the delay will allow for the conclusion of special fare arrangements with Chinese, Asian and European airlines for connecting flights and booking arrangements, enough time to market the route, get ready their computerized reservations system, recruitment and training of staff, establishment of telephone reservations and passenger ticketing facilities.

Campbell said the Hong Kong route was selected because of its population and link to flight links to other destinations.
