A major announcement is expected this hour as an agreement will be signed between the Confederation of Public Sector Unions and the interim government which is expected to result in the national strike planned by members of the confederation being called off.

Village has received confirmation that Interim Public Service Minister Poseci Bune will sign the agreement with the General Secretaries of the Fiji Public Service Association, Fiji Nurses Association and Fiji Teachers Union.

Village has established that the proposals agreed to between the two parties last night is the gradual restoration of the five percent pay cut starting from December this year, that the Partnership Agreement signed with the ousted government remains intact, but all payment be deferred until further notice.

It has also been confirmed that the two parties have agreed not to deliberate further on the reduction of the retirement age from 60 to 55 years as a separate Union has taken the matter to court. However the Unions have proposed that the PSC stop its implementation until the court makes a ruling on the matter.

The press conference is still underway.

Meanwhile the agreements reached between the Confederation and the Interim Government has caused a further rift amongst the unions.

FICTU affiliate the Viti Taukei Workers Union General Secretary Taniel Tabu said they are surprised that the Confederation has given in to the pressure from the interim government on certain issues.

According to Tabu, executives of the Confederation have given in due to political reasons.
