South Africa Sevens playmaker Cecil Afrika will be making his comeback to Tokyo for this weekend’s Japan 7s.
The former IRB Sevens Player of the Year will replace Paul Delport who suffered a knee injury at the fifth round in Hong Kong.
Afrika has not been in action since last year when he aggravated a knee injury at the South Africa Sevens and his availability is good news for South Africa, who suffered a disappointing Bowl semifinal exit in Hong Kong.
Coach Paul Treu said Arika will bring confidence to his players.
Treu added Afrika will not be utilized a lot as they will keep him for the World Cup in Russia.
Meanwhile, Fiji’s head coach Alivereti Dere will have options between Hong Kong 7s final hero Osea Kolinisau, Suva fullback Emosi Mulevoro and Nadroga halfback Sakiusa Gavidi to replace Ilai Tinai.
Fiji will face South Africa on Saturday in their first pool game at 1.44pm before meeting Spain at 5.51pm and Portugal at 9.19pm.
The Cup quarters start at 1.28pm Sunday, Cup semis at 5.08pm and the Cup final is at 7.33pm Sunday.
