Now Adam Blair is set to become the next Broncos captain.
Fast forward a fortnight and Blair has been handed the captaincy of a not so baby Broncos ahead of Friday night's Suncorp Stadium clash with Wests Tigers.
Up to six Broncos are expected to be unavailable due to Queensland duty, ensuring Wayne Bennett has turned to the experienced Blair for leadership.
The Broncos will take on Tigers at 9.50pm Friday while Dragons will face Cowboys at 9.30pm Saturday.
The first State of Origin clash between Queensland and New South Wales will be held next Wednesday.
