Captain Esala Teleni will be starting as the new Police Commissioner today, after outgoing Acting Police Commissioner, Romanu Tikotikoca was given a termination letter last Friday, with three weeks remaining until the end of his term.
Speaking to Village News, Tikotikoca said when he arrived at his office on Friday morning, there was a memo awaiting him from the Constitutional Officers Commission stating that his services were no longer required as Acting Police Commissioner and added that he will be paid for the three weeks when his term was to originally end.
Tikotikoca said he accepted the letter in good faith and relayed his good wishes to the new Police Commissioner.
The hand over ceremony will be held today at the Police Headquarters.
PSC Board Chairman, Rishi Ram could not be reached for a comment on the reasons for the early termination.
Meanwhile, SSP Eroni Antonio has been appointed as Deputy Police Commissioner, whose first task is to look into the reshuffling of senior police officers.
