Accused denies assassination involvement
Barbadoes Mill had his caution statement read out in the Suva High Court by former Police officer, Corporal Samisoni Ralulu who was the witnessing officer when Mills was questioned by Police on November 3rd, 2007.
In his statement, Mills said that he was repeatedly approached by Lance Corporal Peniasi Kuli to take part in the planning stages however he kept on saying that he was not interested in taking part as his life was under threat.
When Mills was arrested in November 2007, he was informed that he was charged with conspiring to kill the Army Commander as well as take out the President of Fiji however Mills maintains that he had informed Corporal Kuli on several occasions that he did not want to take part in the plot.
According to his statement, Mills said that he as well as other CRW soldiers had been warned by the Military that their lives were in danger if they took part in any other illegal activities.
His statement also said that Corporal Kuli would repeatedly call him to set up meetings however he kept on saying that he did not want to be part of the plan.
On one occasion in the second week of September 2007, Mills said while he was at his sister's place at the Raziz apartments, Kuli met him and showed him plans to carry out a hit and run accident in order to kill the Army Commander however Mills told him that he was not interested.
The High Court also heard that Mills was working for Ballu Khan and was also a tenant at the first accused, the Qaranivalu's house in Nausori.
However, in his statement to Police, Mills said that he only rented the house and paid the bills as he was carrying out renovations there and never had any talks with Ratu Inoke Takivaikata with regards to any assassination plot.
Barbadoes Mills is one of the eight men charged with allegedly conspiring to kill the Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum as well as former Finance Minister, Mahendra Chaudhry.
The case continues.
