Interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama stresses that everyone should just accept what happened in 2006 as it will be a very long journey if people do not accept the events of December 5th takeover.

Bainimarama said the interim government and the military want to have the next polls as soon as possible but those people who are refusing to participate in the People's Charter process are delaying the elections.

Commodore Bainimarama said those who are opposing the Charter process keep talking about the rule of law but he said everyone can continue debating about the rule of law for a long time.

He stresses that this will not change anything because the interim government is now running the country.

Bainimarama said the decision to accept what has happened and joining the People's Charter process now lies with the politicians, mainly those from the SDL and the church leaders who continue to oppose the process.

Commodore Bainimarama has also revealed that he met with the SDL President, Ratu Kalokalo Loki a few weeks ago and highlighted to him the SDL Party should be involved in the Charter process.

He said in May 1987 the military carried out the coup because of failed politicians. Bainimarama said the politicians caused instability which led to the coup.

In May 2000, Bainimarama said the coup was staged again because of failed politicians. He said this is the main reason why the military had to move in and assume executive authority.

The Commander said the RFMF then returned the governance of the nation to the politicians however people like Ousted Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase took Fiji in the wrong direction.

Bainimarama said this shows that politicians are not ready to lead the government.

He stresses that at this stage; no one else apart from the military can protect all the citizens and take the country forward to become a united nation.

Bainimarama said it is clear from what happened in 1987 and 2000 that some chiefs and politicians joined forces to manipulate the indigenous Fijians to grab power.

He said the People's Charter is part of the Cleanup campaign to ensure that the coup culture also comes to an end.
