The Health Ministry has revealed that the Labasa Primary School student who is admitted in hospital after allegedly being beaten by her teacher is improving slowly.

Ministry of Health PRO, Illesa Tora said CWM officials early this morning said that the student was responding well to treatment, and they are keeping their fingers crossed that she will be better by the end of this week.

It is believed her teacher hit her with a blackboard ruler after she failed to answer a few questions.

Meanwhile, the Education Ministry maintains their stand on No Corporal Punishment in Schools, and is now calling on school heads to have sessions with their staff members, in finding alternative and positive means of maintaining discipline in schools.

Interim Minister for Education, Filipe Bole once again reminded teachers, that if they were to hit students they would face legal action, as they are directly going against a 2002 Court ruling, that ruled that no form of corporal punishment was to be used in Schools.
